We started out the school year by creating collages that represented who we are. Students went on a magazine scavenger hunt to answer questions about themselves. Then they took their photos, arranged them, and added flare. We didn't finish there! See September to find out what happened when their collages were complete!
Artist: Abbi Green
With their completed collages from the first week of school, students then chose a word that was characteristic about themselves. They cut the letters out of their collage and defined the word on the border of the letters. The results show a small representation of who they are. Check out some examples of their beautiful results!
We also created sketchbooks to help us organize our rough drafts and notes for the semester. Our covers include the student's hand, designs, and their thoughts about what art is, and why it is important. We are now ready to dive into some 3-D projects! This rest of this month we will focus on a unit on clay.
Students made clay models with modeling clay before diving into our kiln fire clay. They learned how to hand build using the pinch, coil, and slab methods. We have also started making treasure boxes and clay masks. Check out some of our action photos in the slideshow below!
We have completed our first and second clay projects. We added glaze to our Pinch/Coil/Slab Creations and Treasure Boxes. Check out some of our completed work!
Clay treasure boxes can be found in the main hallway display case!
Students continue to finalize their clay mask assignment "Fears and Dreams". They have been busy adding glaze, paint and found objects to their masks. Photos will be posted upon completion. While they wait for various steps of the kiln firing process, they have also been working on a letter sculpture assignment that represents the artist. Below are some completed projects.
They are finally finished! Check out our finished clay masks on Dreams and Fears!
As we wrapped up first semester we were able to create hot air balloon models. Some students had enough time to create a yarn coil basket. Check out some of our completed work!
Mrs. West is very excited about the start of a new semester and having another section of 7th Grade 3-D Art! This month we have created sketchbooks and a project that represents the students. Students created a collage and chose a word that was characteristic about themselves. They cut the letters out of their collage and defined the word on the border of the letters. The results show a small representation of who they are. Check out some examples of their beautiful results!
We are currently working on our first clay project. The students have learned how to create pinch pots, coils, and slabs. They are now working on putting all three techniques together into one final piece. Check out the slideshow below to see the students in action!
We have completed two clay projects this month! We have finished our three technique pieces and also have created clay whistles that really work. Check out some of our finished examples below to see our creative results!
Thanks to funding from the REFI Foundation, we have been able to create more letter sculptures this semester. The money provided from the grant allowed us to buy high quality foil, hot glue, and sharpie markers to create a repousse effect. Below is a slideshow of our work in progress. Stay tuned for our final results!
