AUGUST
We started the school year by creating an art work that gave away pieces of information about ourselves. We started by making a collage from magazines that were about us. Using the elements and principles of design we added details with oil pastels. Finally we made a top layer of our first initial and painted it with watercolor paint. Below are some examples of our collages before the initial was added and some of our finished projects.
SEPTEMBER
During the month of September we created sketchbook covers. Our sketchbooks will be used throughout the year to take notes and do rough drawings. We did an introduction to value and shading. We also studied the art of graffiti. Students chose a theme and created graffiti styled words to represent their themes. Below are some examples. Can you guess what some of their themes are?
OCTOBER
This month we are continuing to study value and form. We have started by looking at shading with value to draw some candy in the form of a sphere, cone, rectangular prism, and a cylinder. Can you guess what type of candy we were looking at?
NOVEMBER
During the month of November, students continued to work on value. We experimented with a variety of materials and the students incorporated colored oil pastel fruit with a black and white background of their choice. Below are a few of the completed projects.
December/January
Students closed out the semester by creating their own hand made paper. They used their paper to create beautiful paper landscapes. They also made a clay project where they learned about the slab hand building technique. The students used this technique to create a slab box with a lid. The box was to represent something they treasure. Below are some examples of their finished projects.
